Throughout her residency training in ophthalmology, Dr Deepika was drawn to the challenges of inherited retinal diseases, a field with a considerable disease burden in India marked by a multitude of unsolved cases. She has a keen interest in the study of inherited retinal diseases, particularly retinitis pigmentosa, which affects 1 in 1,000 to 1 in 4,000 individuals. She is dedicated to focus her research on the genetics of inherited retinal diseases and towards the development of new therapeutic modalities to improve the vision and lives of patients with inherited retinal disorders.
